The Unexpected

This book has been so very helpful to me during the past five months, especially when I start to freak out. I freak out about everything having to do with pregnancy. For me, a shoulder ache is reason enough to call the 24-hour nurse hotline. This would be funny, except I'm not kidding. (Okay, it's still pretty funny.) See the thing is, anyone who knows me also knows that I have two giant fears.
  • Being the sole survivor in a fiery plane crash over the middle of an ocean, after which I tread water for days with no rescue, only to be finished off by a giant shark or possible squid. (This is probably why I don't eat seafood.)
  • Having a child.
The problem is, as wonderful as this book is (and all the other books that I have on the subject), the unexpected can still creep in. I was completely blindsided when a sudden medical condition knocked me off my feet and required me to be on bed rest for two weeks. Two weeks. The book never mentioned this?! Oh wait it did. In the section that's titled something like, All The Freaky Crap That Can Happen While You're Pregnant

Thankfully, thankfully, baby was just fine. The problem was all with me, which I can handle. And I'm finally on the mend. Finally.

So, let's talk about bed rest.
  • Bed rest sucks.
  • There is nothing on TV from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Nothing.
  • When forced, I will watch nothing.
  • Little Big Planet. Enough said.
  • Garden plants can double, or even triple in size overnight! And by overnight, I mean a fortnight.
  • Eddie spends a lot of time staring at me. Apparently, he's not as choosy when it comes to watching nothing.
  • There's a teeny discolored spot on the ceiling in my living room. What could it be? Was a bug squashed there? I suppose I'll probably never know.
  • Insanity may be a side effect of doing absolutely nothing for days on end.
  • Online shopping helps with the whole insanity/losing your mind thing.
  • Eddie hates the squirrel living in the front yard too.
  • Peanut M&M's are delicious. I already knew this. But hey, they are.
  • Parents and husbands are like superheroes. They really can save the day.
Let's just say, I learned a lot. Namely, during pregnancy, expect the unexpected. Though, I think my book may have been trying to tell me this all along.

Now that I'm back up and running, I have lots of watercolors to get working on. Deadlines are looming, so hopefully I can get some new paintings posted soon.

Have a great 4th of July weekend!

  1. I'm so glad you're finally starting to feel better. Let me tell you, if you could survive the last two weeks, labor will seem like a breeze. See, this whole thing was just a giant blessing...now labor and delivery will seem like a gigantic walk in the park. Nothing to fear!!!

(Incidently, I had no idea about the fear of being the sole survivor of an airplane crash. But, now that I know about it, I think I might just have added that to my own fear list. I mean, seriously. That is just creepy.)
